Marguerite

Marguerite Ryan, growing up in the Irish community in Portsmouth England, is determined to avoid the fate of her mother who was knocked up at age 16 and forced into a loveless, abusive marriage. She lies, steals and blackmails her way to Paris where she is hired as a dancer in the world famous “Folies Bergere.” Quickly becoming the mistress of a prominent but married Jewish banker (JACQUES), she tricks him into fathering a child and paying for her to leave Europe forever. Banished to a Safari Lodge in South Africa, she meets the wife (WINONA) of a well to do Executive of a Toronto Oil Company (KURT). She lies about her Paris background, charming Winona into inviting her to go back to Toronto.
In Toronto she seduces Kurt and arranges with a Private Eye for perjured evidence of adultery, naming Kurt’s best friend as co respondent. The friend hangs himself after being served with divorce papers. In 1931 they leave Toronto for London where Jacques surfaces at a party at the French Embassy. Kurt retires in 1939 to live in Miami Beach. He finds out about Marguerite’s lies about Jacques. When Kurt dies, Marguerite changes their mutual will and tries to get into heaven by lying in confession about her past. Will she get away with it?.
